South Dakota Non-profit Corporation Gets Back to Giving After Lengthy Lawsuit
Sturgis, South Dakota (December 21, 2015) - Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally, Inc. (SMRi), official stewards of the Sturgis® brand, have announced that they have donated $50,000 to Sturgis® Rally Charities Foundation, $20,000 to the Sturgis® Rally Community Development Fund and $5,000 to Sturgis Community Preschool for 2015. The monies donated to Sturgis® Rally Charities Foundation will in turn be distributed to local charities in and around the Sturgis and Black Hills community. This is the fifth year in a row SMRi has made such a contribution, all of which have been made possible by community-supported official licensing agreements that SMRi manages for the Sturgis® brands. These donations come in the wake of SMRi's overwhelming victory in court against Rushmore Photo and Gifts and WalMart over illegal sales of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally® counterfeit-themed goods.

Mr. Cole was selected after an extensive recruitment and selection process that received interest from many highly qualified and experienced applicants with local, regional, national and even international experience.
The position is full time and involves some travel. The successful applicant will manage day to day museum functions, displays, supervise employees, will handle marketing and promotion to media and community relations. Budget preparation and adherence is integral. Supervision and reporting is to the Board of Directors. Salary will be determined based on education and experience.

A 76th Annual Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ inspired tree will be auctioned off at the 21st Annual Festival of Trees in Sturgis. The tree is decorated in a cranberry and golden orange theme in keeping with the 2016 Official Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ colors. It features 6 Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ Official Logo ornaments for 2016, real pine cone garland, cranberry spray, real dried orange slice ornaments with clove accents, barn wood star and burlap tree skirt.
The tree which was donated to the charity event by Black Hills Rally & Gold, Inc. of Sturgis will be auctioned off on the evening of Friday, November 20th at the Festival, which is held at First Interstate Bank in Sturgis. Proceeds from this event are split between Hospice of the Northern Hills and the First Interstate Bank Greater Sturgis Area Foundation which supports local non-profit organizations in the community such as the Crisis Intervention Center, Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizen Center, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, CASA and Center for the Arts. (SMRi), a South Dakota nonprofit corporation and the official stewards of the STURGIS® brand, today heard a unanimous and overwhelmingly positive verdict in a lawsuit filed by SMRi several years ago.
Sturgis, SD - The City of Sturgis announces the resignation of Rally & Events Director, Brenda Vasknetz, following twenty-seven years with the City including the past seven years as Director of the Rally & Events Department.
The City of Sturgis has received data from sources that are traditionally used to calculate the official attendance estimate for the 2015 Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™.
The official estimate for attendees in 2015 was 739,000. This number is based on previous comparisons for tons of garbage hauled within the City, Department of Transportation vehicle counts, Mount Rushmore traffic counts, SD Sales tax collections, Sanitation fees collected and Main Street photo counts.
SAN DIEGO, CA – Multi-time AMA Motocross/Supercross Champion and AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Doug Henry has been named the Grand Marshall of the 3rd Annual Sturgis Supermoto in downtown Sturgis, South Dakota on September 18-20.
Traffic for the Official Rally Dates was up 30.7% from 2014. 2014 Traffic entering Sturgis at the 8 locations was 390,693. Traffic entering for 2015 at the 8 locations was 510,749. The 60th Rally in 2000 was the highest traffic entering Sturgis for the 7 official Rally dates with 604,441 total vehicles. 2015 was the highest total traffic entering Sturgis since 2005 when the total was 524,656.
Garbage: 764.79 tons of garbage were processed during the 2015 Rally in comparison to 538.72 Tons during the 2014 Rally an increase of roughly 41.96%. Of the 764.79 tons of garbage processed 16.99 were recyclables, that were either processed at City Facilities or hauled to Rapid City for Processing (mostly cardboard). Below are garbage stats form previous years for comparison. (these figures do not include any refuse collected from Kickstart, Thunderdome or Meade 46-1 facilities that were annexed immediately prior to the 75th Rally)
